North West Passage research expedition (October 2011)

As climate change makes an ice free summer route through the long sought-after Northwest Passage a distinct possibility, myself and a number of other scientists are heading off to learn what we can about this usually frozen sea passage. We'll be aboard the Canadian Coastguard Ship Amundsen - Canada’s flagship icebreaker and will gather information on the physical, geological and biological conditions through the Northwest Passage. Little is known about the Passage as the journey itself has always been so treacherous.

As of 30th September 2011 I am en-route to meet up with colleagues prior to commencing our North West Passage research expedition, and I'll be keeping a blog. Read about our research here.
